A therapeutic story
Movies can be a way to help clients find some distance from their life situation so they can look at it more objectively. The movie can place the client in an observer position where they can have awareness about a life situation similar to theirs without feeling the "stuckness" of their own life situation.. The movie can provide a metaphor for a life situation, and the client can sometimes manipulate and resolve the metaphor easier than she/he can their own life situation. I believe in the power of movies to adjunct our therapy in a way that provides our clients with a fresh view, a compassionate view, and a resolving view of their own life.
