Discovery Session
We prefer that you attend this short, no-fee meeting to gather information about PTI and it's various programs. You will have an opportunity to see the physical setup of the building and equipment, and to ask questions. This is where a student therapist will be assigned to you. For more info, see below.
Eligibility
Accepted into this program are individuals, couples and families with a variety of presenting issues.
A Team Approach
Participants must be willing to be observed while in treatment and willing to work with a student therapist in training. The student therapist, the supervisor and the other students in the program work together as a team to provide the client/s with quality therapy. Prior to the first mirror session the client is introduced to the supervisor and can meet all participants in the mirror training program.
Commitment
The commitment to the program is for ten weekly sessions of forty five minutes each. Unless there is an emergency or illness, you are expected to attend regularly. Clients have an option to continue with their therapists at a negotiated fee when this program is completed.
Fee
The fee for this program is $35 per session.
Confidentiality
Participants are asked to extend their release of confidentiality allowing observation and video taping of the therapy sessions for the student therapist's home study. They are erased weekly.
Assessment Session
Prior to being accepted into the mirror counseling, there is a one time Assessment Session. Completion of the assessment does not guarantee acceptance into the mirror program. If at the end of the assessment session, everyone agrees that it would be productive to participate in this program, an ongoing appointment time is arranged.
Dates and Times
Both daytime and evening counseling sessions are available. Once assigned, the day and time for the weekly session will not change.

Informed Consent
You will asked to read and to sign a number of forms including an Informed Consent agreement, plus a permission form giving the counselor permission to videotape his/her sessions with you.
Waiting List
We can usually enroll clients in the program within one week. While waiting for a mirror opening, participants can choose to start their therapy with their student therapist at a negotiated low fee.
Therapeutic Style
The psychotherapy used at the institute is influenced by the Process Model. This model encourages people to encounter their life issues by focusing on and connecting with themselves in order to discover and resolve patterns that interfere with a fulfilling life.
It is an active style of therapy that encourages a participant to have a fuller experience of himself in the moment. We use many psychotherapeutic techniques to invite clients to encounter their issues in an experiential way in order to create new solutions and new decisions about Self.
Ours is a client-centered therapy, which means that we believe the client's ongoing process is what invites him to move through his emotional "stuck places." The therapist's job is to provide an environment of safety, support and acceptance.
We hope to assist people make significant and healthy changes in themselves and in their relationships during this ten week program.
Therapist Qualification
Both licensed therapists and student therapists train at our institute to learn to improve their therapeutic skills. Your therapist may be a counselor trainee, an associate clinical social worker, a registered Marriage, and Family intern, or licensed psychotherapist. Most hold Master’s degrees. Some are currently finishing up their Master’s degree at a local university. These pre-licensed therapists earn hours of counseling experience leading toward licensure from the State of California.
All psychotherapists at Process Therapy Institute are being trained in the concepts and techniques of counseling and psychotherapy. Students at the institute are taught to handle crisis situations, to be aware of and respond to legal and ethical issues, to work with life management issues as well as provide deep personal psychotherapy leading to healing and resolution.
The Supervisors
The supervisor behind the mirror is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, qualified by the state of California to provide supervision.
Observation and Videotaping
During a mirror session, the therapist works with the client behind a one-way mirror. The session is observed by the supervisor and other students. The therapist is usually connected to the supervisor by way of an ear piece. All feedback is focused toward assisting the student therapist in becoming a more effective therapist.
