Meredith Born, M.A., LMFT, is dedicated to inviting clients to experience peace and clarity in their lives. As a former acupressurist and founder of The Healing Connection in California, she incorporates knowledge of holistic therapies and spiritual practices into her work. Meredith specializes in recovery from past abuse, trauma, and codependency. She uses a variety of modalities, including EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a revolutionary technique for clearing trauma that addresses the non-verbal aspects of memory as well as those parts that can be spoken. She teaches The Artists Way, The Vein of Gold, and Walking in this World, a process for discovering/recovering one's creative heart and living from that foundation--the ultimate in self-healing. Another focus of attention is the Highly Sensitive Person, based on Elaine Aron's research, revealing that 15-20% of the general population is genetically, neurologically and physiologically different in processing sensory information. HSP's tend to pick up on subtleties in the environment, process deeply and look before they leap. Meredith gives talks and teaches classes to the public about HSP's and the impact their sensitivity has on their health and relationships, as well as teaching therapists, doctors, nurses and bodyworkers how to work with HSP clients. ![]() THE UNBLOCKING CREATIVITY SERIES: The Artist's Way, The Vein of Gold, Walking in this World. Highly Sensitive Persons (HSP's) are 15-20% of the U.S. population, but 50% of your therapy, bodywork or medical practice. They have an inborn neurological sensitivity to sensory stimulation and thus are easily overwhelmed. Highly intuitive, conscientious and aware of others' moods, they have an affinity for therapy and spirituality. HSP's have often been mislabeled and judged as inhibited, timid, introverted or shy. Psychotherapist can facilitate the HSP's recovery from these injuries and speed the process of reclaiming the positive nature of their sensitivity. HSP's react strongly to medications and to medical procedures. Doctors and nurses can, with the information from this course, decrease their sense of frustration with patients who they may see as seemingly "spoiled," "neurotic" or "overreacting"—and instead use their patients' fine-tuned responses to improve care. Distinguish between the effects of trauma, attachment style, and differences in temperament in your clients and patients—and grasp how these elements interact. Learn both the advantages and challenges of an HSP/HSP relationship and of an HSP/nonHSP relationship. Meredith Born, LMFT and an HSP, feels compelled to teach this material because it has been so relevant to and helpful in her own life. She specializes in recovery from codependency, past trauma, and childhood abuse, as well as in Highly Sensitive People. She has taught classes at JFK University and privately, in creativity, communications, relationship, sexuality, codependency, and the constructive use of anger.
