What is the difference between a Practicum, an Internship, and a Training site?
A Practicum is a placement at a site taken as part of a Master's or Doctoral program through a University as part of the requirement of graduation with a degree. The University has control over what sites are applicable to its students. We qualify as a practicum placement for most Universities.
An Internship is a site for graduates of Universities. They are regulated by the Board of Behavioral Sciences. We qualify as an internship site.
A Training site is where pre-licensed therapists go to acquire skills in becoming a licensed therapist. It is a step between graduation and licensure where candidates can translate concepts into practical application.
We are primarily a training site, providing training in the arts and skills of psychotherapy/counseling for licensed and pre-licensed therapists through our mirror training program. There is a tuition fee for this program.
We believe that as pre-licensed therapists it is important to have intensive training where one can experience the necessary skills while receiving immediate guidance. Click here to view some of what we teach.
The training program is integrated into our Practicums and Internships. It can be taken separately from any other practicums or internship programs in which you may be participating.
As little as 5 hours per week, or as many client hours as you prefer.
Except for the supervision and training provided, you set your own schedule for seeing clients.
You will have you own key and access to a access to room scheduling.
Yes. You get paid from $7 to $66 per session for every paying client you see. You also receive 2/3 of the income generated from groups and at any paying offsite programs. 3/4 of the income generated from self generated offsite contracts is paid to you.
Acquiring paying clients are the responsibility of the trainee/intern. We help you acquire paying client by supporting you in your marketing, by referring paying clients to you on a rotating basis , and by occasionally providing you with paying clients that you will be seeing in the mirror training program.
We are a non-profit organization and do not discriminate.
We work with individuals, couples, families, children and groups.
We work with a variety of presenting issues, including domestic violence, substance abuse, sexual abuse, trauma, loss, as well as with children with school and social issues, the elderly, inmates, etc.
The main reason to train at PTI is that you want in-depth training in the process of doing psychotherapy/counseling as part of your practicum or internship. You want to have a place to turn the concepts you learned in school into practical experiences and you want guidance as you are doing that.
The tuition fee of $375/month pays for the training provided. Candidates visit our Mirror Training programs to determine the quality and kind of trainings we do would benefit their personal and professional growth as therapists.
Tuitions pays for and is an integtral part of the training that accompanies the practicum or internship
It pays for such classes as Attracting Clients, Creating Abundance, Working with Systems, Trauma Recovery, Working with Process, Working with Resistance, as well as access to taped DVD's on these subjects.
It allows free attendance in our occasional Friday night trainings as well as all CEU classes offered to licensed therapists.
Within our trainee/internship, we invite you to begin, continue on, and/or return to the journey of finding your inner truth. We encourage you to live from that truth with love for both yourself and others.
We invite all participants at PTI into a community of abundance where each seeks to allow his potential through participation with others.
We encourage and invite you to work with the mind, body, emotions and spirit.
We have been described as: Humanistic in the way we hold compassion for the human journey we all share, Buddhist in the way we are finding ways to let go of our resistances, Existentialist in the way we honor the struggle of our existence, Experiential in the way we invite our clients into the now and deeper into their experience Spiritual in the way we work beyond the ego duality of life.
Our hope for you is that you graduate from this program with clarity about who you are as a therapist, with joy about your work and with freedom to be the best you can be.
We teach a variety of therapeutic enactments, how to work in various mediums, and how to integrate the numerous counseling models, including the basics of the process model of therapy, into a psychotherapy you can understand, own, and use effectively.
At PTI we invite clients, students, colleagues and ourselves to adopt a life direction of self-empowerment.
You will also be trained in the clinical skills of this profession, including appropriate assessment and diagnosis, goals and interventions. You will be introduced to the concepts of treatment plans, appropriate referrals and crisis intervention. Learning to address legal and ethical issues will be an ongoing part of this program.
PTI meets all requirements of the California Board of Behavioral Sciences. Trainers and supervisors are qualified to supervise 3000 MFT intern hours, 1000 associate Clinical Social Worker hours, and 750 pre-graduate Ph.D. hours.
The group experience is the preferred approach to supervision at PTI. Individual supervision is occasionally provided on an as needed basis. If you are a trainee, check with your university to see if individual supervision is a requirement of a practicum site. If it is, we might be able to help you find a way to get this requirement met another way.
