Movies as Therapeutic Intervention
"A Beautiful Mind"

Instructor: Don Hadlock, LMFT

Welcome to the class.

A therapeutic story
While working with a client diagnosed Bi-Polar, there was a moment when he mentioned that he felt he could be in charge of his disorder, if only it wasn't in charge of him. He had no concept of how he could do that. After referring him to the movie "A Beautiful Mind" he told me how that movie modeled for him a way to manage his disorder. "Instead of trying to control it," he said, "I will just observe the anxiety and depression stages and let them be a part of me, rather than me." This deepened the course of his work.
